A global health insurance firm is launching travel cover for holidaymakers and expatriates living across Europe.
ALC Health has taken advantage of its global standing to offer a 'comprehensive' policy that will cover the cost of treatment for expatriates living and travelling anywhere in Europe.
It will also benefit regular holidaymakers who would struggle to pay for healthcare abroad should they need it.
Travellers can get a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) for free on the NHS - this helps to foot the bill for any medical treatment in Europe - but private treatment may be preferable in some countries, which the EHIC card does not cover. Some foreign hospitals may also expect you to pay for some of your treatment, which is where travel insurance can come in handy.
Unfortunately, this form of protection has become all-too necessary for older Brits.
The number of medical claims on travel insurance almost quadrupled last year, as "gap years for grown-ups" and exotic holidays have become popular among more mature travellers, who are more likely to fall ill in a foreign country.
ALC Health says its insurance can also cover any two homes in Europe, suiting those who have a holiday home on the continent.
Andrew Apps at ALC Health comments: "The Prima Travel plan is available to anyone living in any EU member state, making it an ideal option for the increasing number of expatriates who may have a local medical insurance policy but need protection when they travel abroad."
